I have to state that as regards the Registrar General, the special Committee appointed to consider the estimates recommended that the salary of the Registrar General instead of being $6,804 as it would be with the increase of 35 per cent plus the increment of $1,764 as mentioned in Your Lordship's despatch GR203 of 20th September last, should be reduced to $6,000. In this recommendation I am disposed to concur.
I am informed that the allowance of $1,200 granted to Mr, now Sir Cecil Smith, and to Mr Deane, was rather given to those officers than to the offices they respectively filled. The fact that the former officer continued to draw the whole
